Sockin’ It to My Apples

I’ve covered my apples with nylon “Apple Socks”. When the apples are about 1″ in size, cover each one with a sock, adjust the sock so the stem is centered, then pinch the sock around the stem so it seals as much as possible and stays on. As the apple grows in size, the sock grows with it. I’ve done this for the last five years and my apples have been free of apple maggots. If there are clusters of apples, this is a good time to thin out the clusters.

Warm weather is finally here. I put pole bean seeds in the ground and they are up in a week. I put a tall pole in the middle and about 8 beans around. The beans will climb up and twist around the pole.
