70! At Last!

Friday, May 20th, 2011

What wonderful warm days we are finally having. Today it hit 70 for the first time since last November. Time to plant zucchini, crookneck squash, butternut squash, green peppers, hot peppers, tomatoes, tomatillo, etc. I still use the floating row cover until the evenings are above 45 degrees.

Two Bees or Not Two Bees?

Saturday, May 14th, 2011

My peas are growing well, they like the rain and cloudy skies. Unforunately the other plants in my garden would like a little more sun.

My beets and radishes are popping up under the floating row cover. My spinach are sprouting from seed and also growing well.

I’m hearing that the bumblebees are very few this year. I wonder how the bee population is doing this year. Are they very scarce?

May Day

Friday, May 6th, 2011

May is here and we had a sunny beautiful day. The peach, plum and apple blossoms are out. The mason bees were busy zooming in and out of their homes. I wonder if everyone else’s mason bees are out and about.

I’m using liquid fertilizer on the peas and they are growing well. The potatoes are poking out their green leaves.
